The Harwood Museum of Art is pleased to present a screening of local film maker, director and producer Lynn Hamrick's Chess Kids on Saturday September 17th at 7pm. When Hamrick released Chess Kids to a national public television audience it was hailed by TV Guide as “inspiration in the flesh” and by Jack Peters of the Los Angeles Times as “the most realistic portrayal of tournament chess I’ve seen”. Chess Kids follows America’s top young players as they vied against their counterparts from around the globe for the title of World Champion. Featuring Josh Waitzkin (the real-life subject of the book and subsequent film, Searching for Bobby Fischer) pitted against fourteen year-old Judit Polgar from Hungary (the best female player of all time), Chess Kids delights audiences with its gender bender look at the sport.
Lynn Hamrick will introduce the film, which has been recently been updated to include interviews with many of the child prodigies featured in the original film. Chess Kids appeals to the novice player as well as the chess obsessed.
Tickets $8 for Harwood Alliance Members; $10 non-members. Click here for more information.
